• Intention-Based: Both focus on using personal power, will, and spiritual tools to achieve results like love, money, protection, or justice. 

2. Historical & Cultural Intersections

• Origin: Hoodoo originated among enslaved West Africans in the Southern United States, blending traditional African spirituality with Native American herbal knowledge and European folk magic.
• Survival Tool: Hoodoo was fundamentally a system of survival and resistance, whereas European witchcraft traditions often developed in different, non-oppressive social contexts.
• Intersection: Modern practitioners of "eclectic" witchcraft sometimes incorporate elements of Hoodoo (like mojo bags or specific herbs) into their craft, though many argue this is cultural appropriation if not rooted in the appropriate ancestral background.

• Bible Use: Hoodoo frequently incorporates the Bible (specifically Psalms) as a source of power, which is rare in traditional European witchcraft.
• "Closed" vs. "Open" Practice: Many consider Hoodoo a "closed" practice, meaning it is specifically for those with African American heritage, as it is a way to honor ancestors. Witchcraft is generally considered an "open" practice.

• "Fixing" and Spells: A Hoodoo practitioner might "fix" a candle (dress it with oil) to achieve a result, just as a witch would.
• "Crossing" and Hexing: Both systems have methods for protection against, or the sending of, negative energy (sometimes called "crossing" in Hoodoo or "hexing" in witchcraft). 

In summary, the link is that Hoodoo is a type of, or closely related to, witchcraft (as in, a system of sorcery/folk magic), but with a unique, specifically African-American, cultural, and historical context that distinguishes it from Euro-pagan or Wiccan traditions.
